In the examination of disinfectants, the rate of killing of bacteria is implicitly contained in the result, even when that result is expressed in any such standard form as the phenol coefficient. This fact is not apparent and is not generally recognized. Let it be recalled, however, that the time to kill is the basic determination upon which the coefficient, or any other relative measure of efficiencies, is erected.
